Help organize the Terry Fox Run and help outrun cancer

Lake Country might not take part in the Terry Fox Run fundraiser if the community cannot find a run organizer for this year.

Courage, ambition, and spirit are just a few characteristics that Terry Fox possessed and selflessly devoted towards his ultimate goal—to outrun cancer.

“I’m going to do my very best. I’ll fight. I promise I won’t give up,” Fox said after running for 143 days and 5,373 kilometers across Canada during his Marathon of Hope to raise funds and help find a cure.

Communities all across Canada will be participating in the run this year, however; Lake Country might not take part in Fox’s tradition if the community cannot find a run organizer for this year.

Keep the legacy and passion alive and become a part of the annual Terry Fox Run to ensure that his dream continues in your community. Uphold the motivation in finding a cure for cancer and continue the Terry Fox Run in Lake Country!

“It would be such a shame for the people of Lake Country to miss out on an opportunity to keep Terry’s legacy alive as every community, no matter how big or small, can make a huge impact, just as Terry learned when a small town of 10,000 people raised over $10,000”, said Donna White, provincial director for the Terry Fox Foundation BC & Yukon.

“The Terry Fox Foundation funds research in all kinds of cancer, believing as Terry did, that we need to conquer this disease once and for all,” White said.

With help from people all across the world, money fundraised in Fox’s name has made The Terry Fox Foundation a national investor in cancer research.

“When I started this run, I said that if we all gave one dollar, we’d have $24 million for cancer research, and I don’t care, man, there’s no reason that isn’t possible,” Terry said.

Since the Marathon of Hope in 1980, The Terry Fox Foundation has raised more than $600 million and has helped to reshape Canada and cancer research.

The Foundation proudly donates 84 cents of every dollar donated to cancer research in Fox’s name. In order to continue doing so, volunteer run organizers are extremely important for their community’s involvement.

The Terry Fox Foundation is looking for a motivated individual to take on the role as the run organizer for Lake Country’s Terry Fox Run on Sunday, Sept. 16.
