Friday March 4 will mark the 2011 annual Wold Day of Prayer and Lake Country is hosting the event at St. Edwards Church at 11123 Okanagan Centre Road East.
Traditionally held on the first Friday of March, the event is meant to draw together Christians of all denominations to pray for unity and peace for all humankind.
The program includes scripture readings, prayers, music and meditation followed by refreshments and fellowship.
The tradition of an international day of prayer dates back to 1920 and currently has over 170 countries participating. Each year the program focuses, in part, on a single place where humanity is struggling. This year that country is Chile which has endured centuries of conflict and disputes over ownershi of land and natural resources. We also remember the devastating earthqueackes of 2010 and the amazing rescue of the trapped coal miners.
