Joyce Roydell won the 24th Blind Fishing Derby in Kelowna on Sept. 21, 2024.

The 24th annual Blind Fishing Derby in Kelowna was a hit on Sept. 21.

The derby saw 30 people, all with a visual impairment, take to the lake for fishing and cruising.

"It was a great day out on the water," said organizer Bill Mah. "Joyce Roydell claimed victory with the only catch, and Ryan Jopling had us all laughing when he reeled in someone else's fishing rod! Though it didn't count for the weigh-in, it added to the fun of the day."

Hosted by the Kelowna Yacht Club and organized by the Power Fleet Committee and Club volunteers, the derby originally started in 2000.
