Megan Osland has started her swing into the 2019 golf season. The Kelowna Senior Secondary grad placed fourth in a National’s Women’s Golf Association tournament that concluded Jan. 30 at the Debary Gold and Country Club in Florida.

It was the second tour of the season for Osland as she preps for the upcoming development tours for the LPGA

“I’ve been getting back into the swing of things after a month at home in Kelowna. I had to work out the kinks and shake off some rust,” Osland said about her result in Florida. “I was hoping to win. I had a great round the first day, second day was rough, and third day was good. I bounced from second, to 10th, to finish fourth.”

Osland tied for the second lowest score during the final day which jumped her from 10th to fourth. She credits the comfortability of her hometown golf courses, including Kelowna Golf and Country Club, where she can work on a lot of things, play nine or 18 holes, and work of different kinds of shots when she takes time off.

This will be Osland’s fourth year on the Symetra Tour, the developmental tours and games leading into the LPGA, with the first part of the Symetra Tour starting in the first week of March. Osland said she’s taking steps to making sure she’s playing her best golf when the tour starts.

“A big reason I’m playing these events is to get myself better and to start playing well when the season begins. It will be my fourth year season, and I’m definitely hoping for a good year,” said Osland.

Osland looks to continue her young professional career playing towards top finishes in the LPGA this season, and while she tours the many course of the U.S., she holds a special connection to her Canadian roots.

“There’s only a handful of Canadian’s on the LPGA. I think it’s pretty cool (representing) Canada, and Kelowna,” Osland said.
