Letter: Ignore bleatings of Flat Earth Society

To squander a once-in-a-century opportunity would not only be a travesty, it would make us the laughing stock of the entire province.

To the editor:

When I see and hear arguments against the Lake Country rail trail referendum in interviews and letters to editors from Lake Country residents, I can't help but respond to their negativity.

The arguments about funding for various infrastructure issues are a non-starter. Infrastructure projects are line items in every municipal budget every year, and will be forever. To think infrastructure would not happen because of the rail trail recreational corridor, is ridiculous.

When local nay-sayers suggest in interviews that the corridor may be good for the community, but they will vote against it because the Lake Country civic administration did not present its case well, I can hardly believe it. Talk about  throwing the baby out with the bath water.

To squander a once-in-a-century opportunity would not only be a travesty, it would make us the laughing stock of the entire province.

I feel confident that voters of this fine community will see the negative bleatings of the Lake Country chapter of the Flat Earth Society, for what they are and give this referendum a resounding yes.

Please give our elected council the ability to borrow funds, if necessary, to leave a legacy for  our children and future generations.

Al LaBounty,

Lake Country property owner and resident since 1968.
