A Kelowna senior says her valuable ring went missing after a visit to Kelowna General Hospital.
Patricia Crichton said she signed forms documenting her jewelry on Feb. 9 when she went in for an emergency hip-replacement surgery and handed over her items to the KGH.
When a friend gathered her belongings for her, she noticed the ring was gone.
“I’m so upset about this,” she said. “I always wore that ring. People knew that it was a part of me… it’s just torn me apart.”
She believes the ring was never placed in the envelope containing the rest of her jewelry and she contacted the RCMP when she noticed it was missing after her surgery.
“We’ve reviewed this situation with the patient, supported by our patient care quality office, and all appropriate procedures were followed,” said KGH health service administrator Andrew Hughes. “The patient’s valuables were secured and accounted for according to our procedures. Our records indicate the contents were signed off by the patient and then signed out appropriately.”
Documents were signed saying there were three pieces of jewelry placed in an envelope and taken to a safe. Crichton’s friend took the belongings out, and signed documents saying all the jewelry was there, said Interior Health.
Three pieces of jewelry were received by a nurse, a gold-coloured watch, a pair of diamond earrings and a gold-coloured ring with nine diamonds.
But Crichton said her precious ring was not on that list and it wasn’t until her friend returned the jewelry that Crichton noticed the ring was missing.
An investigation has been conducted by the Kelowna RCMP, who say they will continue to investigate if further information is provided. Anyone with any information is suggested to contact the RCMP at 250-762-3300.
