Lake Country fire fighters aid Vernon search and rescue to save ATV rider Sunday night

After helicopter grounded due to darkness, ATV rescue pulled off

Twenty members of Vernon Search and Rescue along with members of Lake Country Fire Department responded to rescue an ATV rider suffering from a broken leg on Sunday night.

The ATV accident occurred approximately 900 feet above Kal Lake on a plateau near the Oyama end of the lake. Vernon SAR were unable to deploy their helicopter winch rescue team due to darkness. The injured male was transported via stretcher and ATV’s to an awaiting ambulance. The task was completed at 10:30 p.m.

The health of the ATV rider is unknown.
