Kelowna’s Yeti Farm Creative has announced it has given the green-light to a new digital mini-series featuring female skateboarders.

Kick Flip, a 10-part documentary series will feature 10 high-profile professional female athletes and influencers in skateboarding today. It will be shown on Yeti’s YouTube channel and MAHFIA.TV, the global destination for women’s action sports.

Yeti Farm Creative will partner with the Women’s Skateboarding Alliance (Mimi Knoop, Yulin Olliver, Kim Woozy and Lisa Whitaker), Freeride Entertainment (Live Action Cinematography) and writer, Joel Muzzey, on the mini-series. Targeted to a ‘tween audience aged 9 to 12, the first season will be comprised of five episodes and will air this fall featuring celebrity pro skateboarders Lacey Baker, Nora Vasconcellos, Samarria Brevard, Cara-Beth Burnside and 12-year-old up-and-comer, Brighton Zeuner.

The series will blend real-world interviews with animation inspired by the companion-animated series, which is now in development at the studio.

Kick Flip episodes will follow the athletes’ real-life stories, covering topics like “grit,” perseverance and pioneering, while weaving in what Yeti says will be fun, comedic animated sequences.

“It is a pivotal moment for these female athletes right now,” said Ashley Ramsay, co-founder of Yeti Farm Creative and executive producer of the mini-series. “It is important for us to weave their incredibly inspiring real-life stories into the fabric of this franchise to give it deep meaning and to encourage more kids to continue to blaze a trail in the pursuit of their dreams.”

The second season of Kick Flip will air in early 2018 and its athletes will be announced this summer.

The company will finance and produce the series independently. Yeti Farm Creative and its digital-first animation production and distribution company YetiLABS, are co-founded by Ramsay and her husband Todd (creative) and Ashley (business) Ramsay and run by the Ramsays and newly appointed Jason Surridge and Blair Peters.

The the studio operates in a 7,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, dark fibre, geothermal studio. Since expanding in 2013, Yeti Farm Creative has delivered production services, from storyboards to final animation and compositing, to tech companies such as Corus, Nickelodeon, 9 Story, EA Sports, Mondo Media/6PT Harness, Atomic Cartoons and Kickstart Entertainment.

The studio says it has a number of new projects in development for 2018. Yeti Farm Creative is in development on the serialized animated series also titled Kick Flip. This series, which was an original concept of Jessika von Innerebner, follows two main female skateboarding characters, Laces and Nessa, and their quirky bus driver and filmographer cat, Turkey, as they bumble through a hot summer chasing their dreams while learning a lot about hard work, having fun, kinship and making friends along the way.
