UPDATED: 8:10 p.m.

A Peachland home was destroyed by a fire early Sunday evening.

Crews were called to the structure fire on the 6400 block of Vernon Avenue just after 7 p.m.

The fire reportedly started in the kitchen and the family was able to safely escape the blaze after their smoke alarms alerted them.

At this time, one of the family’s pets is missing.

“When we arrived on scene the house was fully involved,” says Peachland Fire Chief Dennis Craig.

He says the kitchen and main upstairs living area were destroyed in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The house is uninhabitable.
