UPDATE:

West Kelowna fire crews say an electrical malfunction is likely the cause of a destructive fire Tuesday morning.

A 30-foot fifth wheel trailer ignited just before 11:30 a.m. beside a home on the 1100 block of Sussex Road.

“BC Hydro crews in the neighbourhood saw it burning and alerted the neighbour,” said assistant Fire Chief Brent Watson.

“We responded with two engines, watched exposure to the house and put the fire out.”

Watson said the fire did spread to a nearby tree, but crews managed to keep it away from the house.

“Trailers are tough to put out because the fuel load is so high. There are so many synthetics and plastics that it burns super hot,” said Watson. “Our main concern was preventing the fire from touching the house.”

Fortunately no was injured in the blaze. The trailer is a complete loss.

“It is not suspicious, likely electrical in nature,” added Watson.
