B.C. Wildfire Service crews are responding to two small fires 12 kilometres southeast of Big White.

Southeast Fire Centre fire information officer Carlee Kachman said Thursday there are two initial attack crews, consisting of six personnel, on the larger fire, which is 0.8 hectares in size.

The smaller nearby fire, 0.002 hectares in size, has one crew, consisting of three firefighters, on site.

Kachman said there are no communities or structures in the area of the fires an air tanker dropped retardant on fires Wednesday.

She said because there are roads into the area, firefighters have been able to move their trucks and equipment into position and that has helped the firefighting effort.

“We hit them pretty hard and pretty fast,” she said about the B.C. Wildfire Service response to the fires, which were reported Wednesday afternoon.
