Two popular local musicians are lending their talents to a benefit concert to assist an Ellison couple facing some difficult medical care challenges.

Poppa Dawg and Jimmy LeGuillioux will perform in concert on Saturday, May 20, 1:30 p.m., at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country.

The concert is being organized by the Ellison Lake Leaseholder Association strata neighbours of Sean and Kelly Bueckert.

On Feb. 1, Sean had brain surgery to remove a cavernous malformation from his brain stem. What was expected to be a straight-forward procedure has turned into three respiratory failures, three trips to the Intensive Care Unit to deal with partial paralysis and dysphagia which is an inability to swallow.

This has led to Sean having to endure a tracheotomy, feeding tube being placed in his stomach, inability to walk, impaired speech and blindness.

While there is optimism Sean will make a recovery, the costs are piling up—prescriptions, equipment purchases, home care and rentals (hospital bed, wheelchair, transport lift, medical supplies and tube feed supplies).

Unfortunately, Sean was unable to work for several months leading up to the initial surgery, leaving his savings used up and the couple facing the prospect of having to sell their home.

Neighbour Jasmine McGee said what the Bueckerts are facing is an unexpected life change that could happen to anyone, and one that is financially too overwhelming to be dealt with alone or limited family support.

“This instance is particularly heart-breaking because Sean was such a vital, happy and energetic person, someone who has done his share quietly to make our community function more easily,” said McGee in an email.

Tickets for the concert, which will also include a 50/50 draw and silent auction, are available at www.creeksidetheatre.com, by calling 250-766-9309 or at the door.
