Gearing up to host Feast of Fields
Claremont Ranch Organics, formerly McCoubrey Farms, is the host site for this year’s Feast of Fields celebration. The event sells out on a regular basis but some tickets are still left for the Sunday, Aug. 12 date in Lake Country.
It is the first time the Okanagan Feast of Fields has been held north of Kelowna and this is the perfect opportunity to experience an elegant afternoon focused on the local food movement.
Feast of Fields is a major event with almost 700 tickets having been issued, said Matt Thurston, owner of Claremont Ranch. Matt and his wife Molly operate the ranch around their regular weekday jobs.
The Feast of Fields event is being organized by Farm Folk, City Folk a B.C. charity devoted to the local food movement. Feast of Fields is an opportunity to experience some of the best local produce and products from local restaurants, wineries and other cottage food industries.
Matt says the eight-acre Claremont Ranch has more than enough space for the expected guests. Parking will all be off-site at George Elliott Secondary School with shuttles running people to the ranch.
“Our date for Feast of Fields is earlier in the summer than the Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland events. There is a hope that tourists in the area will be able to attend,” explains Matt.
Feast of Fields is remarkably popular—this is the fourth annual event in the Okanagan. Funds raised in the past have gone to a start-up seed saving workshop and networking opportunities for people in organic food production.
There is a high quality list of producers sure to draw a capacity crowd again this year. Locals including Grey Monk will be in attendance as will Chef Planiden’s Culinary Adventure, Raudz Regional Table, and Meadow Vista Honey Wines to name but a few.
Tickets must be purchased before the event from www.feastoffields.com and are non-refundable.
Children are definitely, but dogs are not welcome at the event.
If you are a Lake Country producer of quality food, there is still time to contact organizers about participating.
